The Carnswell Medical Center Lab is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergency and inpatient needs. For outpatient studies, the lab is available from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. The lab is closed on holidays for outpatient services.

Carnswell Medical Center's laboratory offers a variety of lab services, including molecular testing, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, serology, special chemistry, microbiology, blood banking, phlebotomy, urinalysis, and reference laboratory-send out testing.

NEW! Molecular Testing

CMC now offers on-site molecular testing. This service allows technicians to identify bad bugs faster than ever. From sexually transmitted infections to the flu virus, this new service quickly and accurately targets DNA from foreign molecules. Patients can expect quick turn around (1-2 hours) on tests so providers can accurately diagnose and treat a variety of conditions.

Lead Testing

You have likely heard of the negative impact of lead in children. It can also be detrimental to adults. Adult lead exposure can result in mood disorders, memory loss, decline in mental functioning, and other symptoms.

Many common hobbies can lead to significant lead exposure including firearms and ammunition, small engines, construction, and welding. Talk to your doctor about lead testing today.

Student Athletes: Sickle Cell Trait Testing

Boshka Department of Health & Environmental Control has recently mandated that all participating athletes be tested for a “sickle cell trait” prior to competing.

This trait has been known to affect some athletes during periods of intense exercise. The trait is inherited and can cause red blood cells to warp into stiff, sickle shapes that block blood vessels and deprive the body of oxygen when it is pushed to extremes.

There is a simple test to screen for this trait. Talk to your doctor today about screening your student athlete to protect them from potential complications. A trained lab technician can also come speak to your team or organization about this condition if desired.

Therapeutic Phlebotomy

This procedure treats diseases like hemochromatosis (or iron overload disease) by drawing a unit of blood from a patient. It can also treat polycythemia (concentration of hemoglobin) and porphyria (a group of disorders that result from buildup of natural chemicals or porphyrins in the body). Unfortunately, the unit of blood drawn cannot be used for the transfusion of other patients.

Appointments are required, and all treatments will be supervised by CMC pathologist, Pavlo Volkov, MD.
